Amazon.com Review
The most recognized periodical of American sports, Sports Illustrated has proved to be a fine marriage of top journalism (from the likes of Frank Deford, Paul Zimmerman, and Rick Reilly) and eye-popping photography since 1954. Cover stories range from the week's top games to a retrospective of the legends of yesteryear and their imprint on today's competition. In each issue, "Inside the Week in Sports" keeps the fan in touch with the major sports news, while "Scorecard" offers SI's spin on the week. Fans are always eager to dive into SI's hefty preview issues, a must-have primer for upcoming college and pro sport seasons, including the Olympics. What else would a sports fan want? OK, SI's infamous swimsuit issue arrives faithfully each winter. --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars after all these years   December 18, 2008
David A. Baer (Indianapolis, IN USA)
The two principal articles in the December 22, 2008 issue of Sports Illustrated number that lies before me are why SI remains the uncontested leader in North American general sports periodicals. Jim Trotter's 'D As in Dominant' connects the dots between the Steelers' Steel Curtain of yore an its present day top-ranked NFL defense. Joe Posnanski's 'noir' take on the winter baseball meetings in Las Vegas (!) captures the pathos and ridicule that are both required for a full understanding of this off-season institution.

Both are simply great sports writing.

SI is no longer the best source for up-to-the-minute sports news in our digital era, if it ever was. But the magazine's editors know what it is and what it isn't and major on bring us fine interpretation and commentary on the sports we live week after week, complemented with simply stunning photography.

You'll need another publication if you want to go really deep into, say, baseball or soccer. But for riveting and occasionally hilarious writing on the sports we love from people who know them deeply, SI is still the obvious choice. No instant replay required.

5 out of 5 stars SI sets the standard   December 18, 2008
sfsurfergirl (San Francisco, CA United States)
Sports Illustrated is the best sports magazine in circulation, filled with excellent sports photography and journalism. SI provides well-rounded coverage. I am a huge fan of Tom Verducci and look forward to SI's Baseball Preview every year - ahem, and yes, the Swimsuit issue ain't too shabby either. Amazon's price is the best deal out there (so far from some quick searches). Perfect for the sports nut in you or for your best pal.

5 out of 5 stars Why not available outside US   December 12, 2008
D. Chapman (Sydney, Australia)
The offers are great value but why oh why is this not available outside the US? Do publishers/Amazon think only Americans can appreciate ESPN, Sports Illustrated and the sports they cover? Get real. We watch these sports live all around the world. The internet goes all around the world. The hard copy of magazines? Cannot jump the border.

5 out of 5 stars Great and Informative Magazine   September 29, 2008
N. Orange (Birmingham, Al United States)
I send this to my nephew every year as a gift and he shares with all of his friends. They really like to see this magazine come. You see, he and his friends are in prison and usually do not have current information on sports. So this is a blessing to all of them!

4 out of 5 stars It meets a need   September 15, 2008
W. Dietrich (Las Vegas)
I subsribe to 3 sporting magazines. ESPN, Sporting News, and Sports Illustrated. ESPN is too flashy and in your face for me. Sporting News is a quick informative read of games / leagues / teams. Sports Illustrated is mored informative than either of the above magazines, however it tends to take itself too seriously. Each issue has one story that just seems to go on and on forever. The magazine has lowered its price and is well worth the money.

Rest assured your order is in good hands. All orders are processed and fulfilled via Amazon.com.
